PASSION: Scottish Terrier Press only accepts manuscripts over which both author and staff are wildly enthusiastic.
PERFECTION: Scottish Terrier Press is less interested in schedule than in getting it right. For example, if illustrations are appropriate, it will encourage an author to produce his own artwork even if this involves further development of latent talents.
PRIDE: We’re realistic. We’re small, independent. We don’t crank out best sellers, but we do produce projects of pride. The end result is not merely an acceptable product or even a great product. Instead, ideally, we strive for an accomplishment that was originally considered beyond our grasp or imagination. We like to surprise ourselves. The end result is something lasting that will be treasured by both staff and author for the rest of our lives.
PARTNERSHIP: We partner on projects. The press cannot do it alone with its small staff and tight budget. We carefully select not only the manuscripts but also the participants. In short, our selection process is not restricted to quality writing but also those unique, persevering personalities that are willing and capable of taking an active part in all stages of the book production process.
PROFIT: We are by no means a vanity press. Although our products are extremely polished, we are not interested in packaging fancy gift editions for well-healed individuals to distribute to family and friends. We are in business for profit, but will not compromise quality. We produce works of art, sure, but works of art that will sell. We achieve profit in a unique manner, via quality endorsements and thorough pre-press marketing. Its small staff, negotiating policies and close management style keeps costs down to maximize margin.
Scottish Terrier's latest title, Greek Folk Stories, Old and New, by Mary Ziavras and George Vendura is in production. The publication date is yet to be announced.
